Toronto, Ontario – Spectra Inc. (SSA: TSX VENTURE) announces the appointment of Rolf VanderZwaag, President of Techni-Com Inc., a consulting company specializing in maintenance and technical issues in the transportation field, to its industry advisory board. Mr. VanderZwaag is currently under contract with the Ontario Trucking Association and the Canadian Trucking Alliance, as well.
Rolf VanderZwaag is the author or editor of numerous truck-related curricula used in apprenticeship training in the Province of Ontario; the author of four books for truck operators; executive producer of four video productions on safe truck operations, including one for the general public on “Sharing the Road with Trucks”. He has appeared as an expert witness on numerous occasions before the Ontario Court of Justice, the Ministry of Labour Arbitration, and the Ontario Appeal Court over the past decade.
Currently, Mr. VanderZwaag is Co-Chair of the Air Brake Endorsement Revision Committee for the Province of Ontario as well as Chair of the Commercial Vehicle Wheel Service Redevelopment Committee.
“We are pleased to have Canada’s leading expert on commercial vehicle air brakes join Spectra’s advisory board. Such an appointment further demonstrates our commitment to enhancing public safety while recognizing the needs of the transportation industry,” said Andrew Malion, Chairman of Spectra Inc.
Rolf VanderZwaag said, “Given that brake systems remain one of the trucking industry’s greatest compliance challenges, efforts in this area are very important for continuing to improve the industry’s safety record. I have looked at Spectra’s Brake Safe and Brake Inspector devices and believe that they make a significant contribution to safer and more productive truck operations.”
Rolf VanderZwaag joins Wayne Gibson, National Freight Manager of Teamsters Canada, John Tillger, previously President of Tibbett & Britten Canada, North America’s premier logistics firm, and Canadian Brigadier-General Ernest Beno, whose appointments to Spectra’s Advisory Board were recently announced.
“As one of North America’s leading designers and manufacturers of brake safety products for the truck and transportation industry, we decided it was appropriate to create an industry advisory board to broaden and enhance the company’s level of familiarity with industry issues and to support Spectra in evolving our long term sales and marketing strategies,” stated Andrew Malion.
Spectra Products Inc. is the Toronto-based North American designer, manufacturer and distributor of Brake Safe®, the visual brake stroke indicating system and Brake Inspector®, the company’s electronic in-cab air brake diagnostic system. During the recent Operation Air Brake roadside inspections conducted in Canada and the United States brake defects were found to be the leading cause of vehicles being put out of service, accounting for 69 percent of major defects (source Operation Air Brake Statistics - September 2004). Spectra’s products are gaining increasing recognition and acceptance as demands for enhanced brake safety increase among regulatory authorities and the motoring public.
