Toronto, Ontario – Spectra Inc. (SSA: TSX Venture) reports it has introduced a new, advanced, electronic air brake diagnostic system using its smart sensor technology and multiplex connectivity. This system, Brake Inspector,TM supports transportation industry standard protocols and can be used by maintenance staff to diagnose problems in the overall brake system resulting in significant dollar savings from reduced time to complete Preventative Maintenance Inspections, costly brake repairs and improved fleet productivity.
Brake Inspector,TM through a system display module mounted in the vehicle’s cab, provides drivers continuous, real time information on the braking capabilities of trucks, trailers and buses while the equipment is operating. The air brake system information is displayed in the cab of the truck or bus on an LED display module. Trailers can also be equipped with a stand-alone display module that is supported by battery back up to provide the brake stroke status in a non-tethered condition. A data logger stores up to 30 days worth of brake activity that can be retrieved by maintenance staff to diagnose and evaluate air brake performance.

Brake Inspector,TM was developed with the support of the National Research Council Canada through a grant from the Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP. This NRC grant is the first step in establishing a extensive R & D program over the next 3-5 years to ensure that Spectra’s existing and future products and technologies meet the emerging needs of the transportation industry. A RF Electronic wireless version of Brake Inspector,TM is currently under development to complement the multiplex system.
