Toronto, Ontario - Spectra Inc., (SSA:CDNX) reports that its wholly owned subsidiary, Spectra Products Inc., has received a $60,000.00 grant from the Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP) run by the National Research Council Canada. The prime purpose of IRAP is to assist small and medium sized businesses in expanding their technical expertise.
The NRC grant will be used to apply MULTIPLEX and RF WIRELESS DATA TRANSMISSION technologies to Spectra’s Brake Safe ™ and Bendix’s SureStroke ™ visual brake stroke indicator systems. Spectra will develop a system that will display brake stroke and other air brake activity from a truck, bus and or a tethered trailer via a TWO WIRE MULTIPLEX connection or a WIRELESS DATA TRANSMISSION. The air brake system information is to be displayed in the cab of the truck or bus on a LCD display or an LED display module. The system will support transportation industry standard protocols. Trailers can also be equipped with a stand-alone display module that is supported by battery back up to provide the brake stroke status in a non-tethered condition. A data logger will store up to 30 days worth of brake activity that can be retrieved by maintenance staff providing a more efficient means of identifying air brake faults and assisting in reducing the amount of time taken to perform air brake and preventative maintenance inspections.
“This NRC grant is the first step in establishing a extensive R & D program over the next 3-5 years to ensure that Spectra’s existing and future products and technologies meet the emerging needs of the transportation industry,” commented Andrew Malion, Chairman of Spectra Inc..
