- Why do I need Brake Safe®?
|
Brake Safe® will make your truck or fleet safer for the road!
The greatest identifiable problem in the trucking industry is the lack of a detailed pre-trip inspection of a power unit or trailer’s air-brake system in spite of legislated requirements.
The two main reasons why most drivers don’t check air-brake adjustments regularly are the fact it is difficult and messy to climb under the power unit or trailer with a measuring tape to check each air- brake pushrod stroke; and secondly, there is a false belief that if the power unit and trailer are fitted with automatic slack adjusters there is no need to check the stroke.
While a properly working automatic slack adjuster can greatly reduce the frequency of manual adjust- ments, automatic slack adjusters still require manual adjustment at installation and at regular intervals and every time the brakes are replaced.

- How does Brake Safe® Work?

Brake Safe® is quite simple yet extremely effective: it consists of a corrosion resistant steel bracket containing two highly visible pins preset apart at the proper maximum allowable stroke for the specific brake chamber type.
The bracket is attached to each air-brake chamber and an indicator pin on the pushrod is aligned at one side and moves back and forth with the movement of the pushrod. As long as the indicator pin is within the preset stroke limits when the brakes are properly adjusted.
It takes only seconds to visually confirm that the indicator pin is within the allowable stroke or beyond the proper limit. With Brake Safe® installed, out-of-adjustment brakes can be corrected quickly and accurately. |
